How To Become a Professional Writer in 3,476 Characters

In December of 1990, I was conceived in the hours following a Kenny Loggins concert. Fourteen years later, I wrote the very first piece of content I was ever proud of. 

It was 8th grade English class at Nativity of our Lord Catholic School, and we were asked to give a short presentation on the topic of fear. I channeled my love of late night television monologues to write and perform the opening line, “Fear comes in many forms. Darkness, spiders, and the Bush administration.” Considering this was 2004 and my biting wit was ripped from the headlines, the entire class erupted in laughter.

In the years following, I was convinced I wanted to pursue writing as a career. I contributed a few pieces for our high school newspaper, such as an article on how the television program The Simpsons should finally go off the air.
