Our Conversations, Our Golems: A Conversation with Tyree Jones-Evans
When we met Tyree Jones-Evans inside her studio at RedLine Contemporary Art Center on Arapahoe, she revealed a stunning new piece, part of a series that sparked the following discussion.
Denverse Magazine: You’ve started employing a new theme involving these android-esque characters. They have this sort of Tin Man look to them. Can you tell us about that?
Tyree Jones-Evans: So this work is exploring the symbiotic relationship with technology we’ve been developing, especially with AI. I’m bringing this character from the technological world into our biological world, which is fleeting. I’m calling it a golem. If you’re unfamiliar, a golem is a humanoid figure that’s been imbued with life. It’ll do what you say, but, as a consequence, you never know where it’s going to go. It’s from Jewish folklore.
The golem itself is this representation of the half-human, half-robot or artificial intelligence. Even with it being separate from us, we still have this weird connection to all of our technolo…
